A lesson on Seniors’ Portrait Cards – getting wise to the student market
For freelance creatives, pinpointing business opportunities in new or less obvious areas can make the difference between a stable, potentially stagnant career and a dynamic, ever-expanding one. Freelance photographer, Amy Neubauer, has recently started to broaden her portfolio of services to meet the growing demand for ‘Senior Cards’ – portraits of pupils in schools and colleges throughout the US.
Particularly popular with high school students, Senior Portraits for the college year book have emerged as a thriving industry for professional photographers. Once captured for posterity, students order packages of their pictures, comprising 8×10, 5×7 and wallet-sized (2.5×3.5) mini prints. The wallet-sized cards are then handed out to fellow students at the end of high school or to coincide with graduation.
Lots of photographers use MOO to transform the mini-prints into personalised Senior Card wallets for clients, featuring contact details of each student and/or graduation open house information, alongside the individual portrait photographs.
We love the examples we’ve seen so far and, according to everything we’ve read, so do the students. In fact, the cards are starting to become the ultimate graduate accessory.
