Celebrity Cards competition

May 2012, by Dan H | 36 Comments – latest by Katie

We’ve got a bit of a soft spot for Business Cards here at MOO (no surprises there) and love seeing all the different designs that get sent to Big MOO to print – you really are a creative bunch you know!

This got us thinking about the cards we don’t see and what famous characters’ cards might look like. Kicking things off with Zeus, because the King of the Gods seemed like a good place to start, we settled on the following design:

Not bad hey?

Still, it’s not fair for us to have all the fun, so we want to see your designs! Given that designing some cool cards for the Zeus is on par …Continue reading this article…

Illuminating the truth about The LightBox

April 2012, by Simon G | 5 Comments – latest by Ellie

As some of you may know, yesterday we launched The LightBox. It seems we missed out a few key product details, and many of you commented on the announcement asking us for more information.

There were questions about choosing laser colours…

Whether or not the packing would sync with your iPod…

And an overwhelming number of people guessing that this was an April Fools joke.

Congratulations to those of you that spotted the April 1st date! We’re sorry we couldn’t provide more details about The LightBox packaging, but we didn’t want to give the game away.

A few of you noticed we weren’t publishing all of our blog comments, we wanted to keep …Continue reading this article…

Introducing The LightBox, by MOO

April 2012, by Simon G | 1,353 Comments – latest by Natasha J Gordon

There really is nothing quite like working at a cutting edge company, where innovation is as much a part of our daily routine as coffee, cake and beer. Every day brings something new: a chance to push boundaries; to try things that have never been tried before; to strive for the very best in everything we do.

Luxe Business Cards

The evolution of Business Cards

March 2012, by Dan H | 5 Comments – latest by Virvey

As you may have noticed, we kinda have a thing for Business Cards. But, we’re not the first! So, to help spread the love, we thought we’d create this clever infographic that looks at the evolution of Business Cards – from their origins in 15th Century Japan right through to the modern day developments in card stock and printing techniques.

Let’s get techy!

March 2012, by Andrea | 6 Comments – latest by Claire Barnhart

It probably goes without saying that a large percentage of the MOO crew are massive tech geeks. We love anything cutting edge, forward thinking and…well…shiny! Particularly if it combines with our other passion, great design. That’s why these MOO customers stood out to us. They’re a mix of web and app developers, web designers and a tech gadget reviewer – but the one thing they all have in common is great Business Cards.

This cool street food app by developers Tatlow Park Software Inc is short and to the point on MiniCards.

Tech review website Gadget Mac use a funky word cloud to make their Business Cards say a …Continue reading this article…

Matte is the new black

February 2012, by Paul T | 2 Comments – latest by Em

Back in 2010 we launched the unique ShowCase Business Card Holder in black and white, which was designed to fan out your cards – showing just how amazing they are.

Well, since then we have been playing around with some new finishes and we are now ready to reveal the new rubbery black ShowCase. We have taken the current black ShowCase and added a rubberized coating to create a new frosted look with a tactile satin feel.

It still fits exactly the same amount of Business Cards and works in the same way – we just wanted to make it even more special.

Hope you like it!

Help brighten my business card

February 2012, by Dan H | 6 Comments – latest by Victor Li

Hi everyone, Dan number six here. I’ve just joined MOO and one of the first questions I have been asked is what pictures I’d like on my business cards. This hasn’t been an easy question to answer, as the possibilities are only limited by how far my imagination is willing to stretch on a Friday afternoon.

I’ve already run through some of the many options, from photos in my Flickr account, to awesome graffiti shots via some amazing line art. I really am struggling.

I need your help!

That’s where you come in – I’m looking for the MOO blog readers for inspiration. If you think you know of the perfect shot for the back of my card, then I’d love to …Continue reading this article…

Print. As you know, we love it.

January 2012, by Richard | 27 Comments – latest by Richard

I started MOO in 2004 with the ambition to create remarkable products. In 2006 we introduced MiniCards, to help you share your virtual life with the real world. Packed with modern innovations, MiniCards were, nevertheless, built on the tradition of Victorian-era calling cards. Hundreds of years after calling cards first appeared, CNET called MiniCards “the Web 2.0 secret handshake”. That made me chuckle: a printed card for the internet generation.

Since then, our little company has grown (we’ve printed close to 100m MiniCards), but our values remain the same. We believe that technology should build on the values of the past – striving to make great things even better, more accessible: for everyone.

That’s what brings us here today.

Inspired by the …Continue reading this article…

The font of all creativity

January 2012, by George | 8 Comments – latest by Andrea

I’ve got a head cold today, you’ll probably end up hearing it on the screencast (below) if you watch it.

The reason I’m telling you this is because I’ve been trying to write a blog post on how important it is for Product Managers to strike a balance between creating brand new products and improving the existing ones. About how our new Facebook Cards are an exciting new product and how what we’re releasing today is aimed purely at improving things based on what we’ve heard from our existing customers.

The thing is, I keep re-reading what I’ve written and it sounds like a cold feels, all bunged up and treacly, fuzzy and unclear. So, I think I’m just going to …Continue reading this article…

Design team’s typographic day out

October 2011, by Jovanna | Add a comment

The graphic design team was sent to the very first Typographic Conference to be held in London. Three jam packed days of back-to-back talks by the design worlds leading typographers and creatives. It was a fabulous fest of type design, ascenders, brackets and other Ponzi designer-y quirk.

We loved the idea of typefaces being designed for a specific purpose and use, such as; typefaces particularly for swearing and others just for telling lies. What would be the best typeface for passing on your details on a small paper card?

Tom Uglow from Google and You Tube’s Creative lab talked about how computers dominate our lives and reminded us that it was only recently we joined …Continue reading this article…
