Light Emitting Polymers
Add to drop box © The Science Museum 2007
The most important raw materials used in the manufacture of lightweight screens are special plastics called light-emitting polymers, made in four key colours: red, green, blue and yellow. Scientists dissolve these to turn them into liquids and coat them onto glass or plastic sheets. Then by adding metal contacts and connections, a thin, bright and lightweight display screen is made.
