MOO’s Super-Duper Holiday Card Competition: Terms and Conditions

Why is MOO having a competition?

Because we're really excited about our new greetings cards - and the holidays - and want to share the fun with you! We'd come round to your house and give you a nice mince pie, but you live miles away, so this is a bit easier.

How do I enter?

Make your designs in any way you like (they can be photographic or illustration based) and upload them to Flickr. Join the MOO Competition group at www.flickr.com/groups/mooxmas07 and add up to ten designs to the group pool. Once your design is in the pool, that's it - you've entered - and from November 1st 2007 you, your friends - and the rest of the world, will be able to buy your design on their holiday cards in the Holiday Card Store, on the MOO website.

How many times can I enter?

You can enter ten designs in the competition. If you add more to the group, you will be asked to remove the extra ones, and may be disqualified. (It sounds a bit harsh, we need an answer from the judges *this* year - and too many designs from one person just makes it too hard.)

What are the rules?

The full Terms and Conditions are right here

You should read them before you enter, just to make sure you understand the competition ok. (It is important.)

What is Flickr?

Flickr is the best way to store, sort, search and share your photos online. You can find out more about Flickr or take a tour.

Do I need an account with Flickr to enter?

You need a Flickr account to upload your designs, but don't worry a basic Flickr account is free (you don't need to be a 'Pro' member). You can sign up for a free account at www.flickr.com/signup/

How do I join the Group?

Sign in to Flickr, and visit the Group - just click the large 'Join This Group' link on the right, below the search box.

How do I add a photo to the group pool?

Click the 'send to group' button above the picture when you're signed in to Flickr. (You'll need to be a member of the group first.) Find out more about groups on Flickr's help section.

What are the prizes?

MOO is giving away four prizes, each of $2000 (that's about £980 in proper Pounds, Shillings and Ounces, and about €1400 according to the exchange rate today - it might be slightly different on the day the prize gets claimed)

There will be one prize of $2000 in each of four categories.

What are the categories?

Best Selling
For the design that is used on the most Greetings Cards sold through the MOO shop.
Best Photo
For the photographic entry the judges think is the best - both in terms of craft, and in the way it captures the holiday spirit. It can be a digital or a scanned film photo, but you shouldn't have heavily manipulated it.
Best non-photo
For anything else - from drawings to quilts to design to computer generated art. Again, this will be the image the judges think is the best - both craft, and in the way it captures the holiday spirit
Funniest
For the image - however it's made - that the judges think is the most hilarious take on the holiday. Make us laugh!

Who are the judges?

The judges are:

What happens to my design once it's in the pool?

Your design may appear on the MOO website at first, and once the Holiday Card Store opens on November 1st, people will be able to use your design when they buy a Greeting Card pack. Every time this happens, your design will have helped raise money for Médecins Sans Frontières.

What is Médecins Sans Frontières?

Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is an international humanitarian aid organisation that provides emergency medical assistance to populations in danger in more than 70 countries. They provide assistance to populations in distress, to victims of natural or man-made disasters and to victims of armed conflict. They do so irrespective of race, religion, creed or political convictions. You can find out more about them at their website

Why did you choose Médecins Sans Frontières as your charity?

Because we think that saving lives is a pretty amazing thing to do. You can read their charter to see why we think they're a good charity to support.

But what about my copyright?

You keep the copyright in your design. When you add it to the group pool, you're agreeing that MOO can show it on the MOO website, and let people print it when they buy greetings cards. Check the competition rules for more details. MOO will only use your images for the Holiday Card Store, and nothing else. You can still use your image in any other way you want to.

If you're really worried about this, then please read the T&C's carefully - we've done everything we can to make them as clear as possible.
