The MOO for Business Team took some time out from MOO HQ to visit Heidi Reed, Communications Manager for Edesia

Who are Edesia?

Edesia is a US based non-profit organization, and part of a global network of manufacturers that produce nutritious, peanut-based, ready-to-use foods like Plumpy’Nut for humanitarian organizations. They aim to save the lives of children suffering chronic malnutrition – but more than that, they share stories of local production in countries where malnutrition rates are high, and how their work helps peanut farmers and local workers provide for their own families with dignity.

Postcards from the edge

“We are always looking for ways to share the story of local production in countries where malnutrition rates are high and how it helps peanut farmers and local workers provide for their own families with dignity.” Heidi Reed, Edesia Communications Manager says. “To highlight the work of the PlumpyField Network, we decided to order a series of MOO Postcards using powerful photos from the factories in Haiti, Niger, and Sudan, with more info on the back. These cards literally flew off the table when we took them to our table at the annual World Food Prize meeting in Iowa.” They also made holiday postcards which depicted healthy children in Niger holding hands – a clear message to donors that Edesia works.

Materials worth keeping

Like MOO, Edesia values quality print, and believes that a beautiful, memorable product is more than just the sum of its parts. “I’m obsessed with creating print materials that are worth keeping because they help us spread the important awareness that childhood malnutrition is a global crisis that is holding back the entire potential of our world.” Heidi explains. “I believe they can have greater social impact than the average postcard purchased from the internet, because each presents itself as a gift to keep.” Couldn’t have put it better ourselves!
